UPDATE: 12:11 pm ET: The man wanted for shooting two police officers and killing one yesterday in Americus, Georgia is dead. Americus Police Chief Mark Scott said Minguell Lembrick was found dead after a tip led police to a home where Lembrick was reportedly barricaded.
Police in Americus, Georgia are surrounding a neighborhood where an accused cop killer may hiding out. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, FBI, ATF and other agencies are also on the scene and it appears SWAT officers have been escorting people out of homes in the area.
The GBI reports a tip was called in from a citizen and they believe Minguell Lembrick is barricaded inside a home. Lembrick is believed to have opened fire on Americus Police Officer Nicholas Smarr and Georgia Southwestern State University Officer Jody Smith yesterday when they responded to a domestic call. Smarr was killed and Smith was flown to a regional hospital where he's been fighting for his life. The reward for info leading to Lembrick's arrest is now at $70,000
