Miley Cyrus may appear as confident as anyone but even she still feels insecure about her body.
During a recent appearance on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, the "Flowers" singer got candid about how past comments and jokes about her body have had a lasting impact, per People. She revealed that she still thinks about the memes that made fun of her controversial 2013 MTV VMAs performance, where "people were putting my head on different, very unattractive things," and that those images influence some of her fashion choices.
"I still see that when I put on a bathing suit to this day," she said. "I wear very modest bathing suits."
The memory of body-shaming comments even lingered as she went on a recent girls' trip when she saw how others wore string bikinis and she landed on shorts and a tank top. Cyrus compared the modest look to tankinis, joking that she doesn't even know if that is in style, and recalled getting a pep talk from her sister about the look.
"My sister goes, 'You're you, so this is cool. I guess this is in now. You're making this cool. But, like, you know this is what a grandma wears to the beach,'" she said. "It just hit me, like oh, I'm still so insecure about those memes about my body."
Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Cyrus recalled how her VMAs performance affected her relationship with her family, adding that her siblings were "humiliated" to be related to her during that era.
